Why upgrade your panel?
Most San Diego homes built before 1990 were wired for a fraction of today's electrical demand. Two TVs, a refrigerator, a window AC. Now you've got a heat pump, an induction range, a 60-amp EV charger, three mini-splits, and every outlet feeding a phone charger, laptop, or gaming console.
An outdated panel shows up as tripping breakers, flickering lights when the AC kicks in, warm outlets, and dread every time you plug in something new. An upgrade fixes all of it at once — and future-proofs the house.
What we install
- 200-amp service upgrades — the standard for modern homes, enough for EV charging plus a heat pump.
- 400-amp service — for large homes, ADUs on the same lot, dual EV chargers, or heavy commercial-residential mix.
- Federal Pacific / Zinsco replacement — these panels have known fire risks and should be replaced ASAP.
- Sub-panel additions — for garage EV chargers, workshops, ADUs, or backyard offices.
- Meter/main combos and separates — matched to your utility's spec.
- Whole-home surge protection — added at the panel to protect every circuit.
Our panel upgrade process
1. In-home evaluation. A licensed CLD electrician looks at your existing panel, service drop, meter, and grounding. We check load calculations against your actual and planned demand.
2. Firm quote. You get a real number based on the actual work — not a padded flat-rate.
3. SDG&E coordination. For most panel upgrades we coordinate the utility power shutdown and reconnect. Usually a single-day outage.
4. Permitting. We pull the permit with your city and schedule the inspection.
5. Install. Old panel out, new panel in, all circuits reconnected, labeled, and tested.
6. Inspection & sign-off. We meet the inspector. If anything comes up, we fix it before we leave.
